This year's EduFair 2008 held at Lodge National School and Kindergarten was the Lodge School Alumni Association's inaugural event since its conception in December 2007.
Apart from the day-long Exhibition held in the Library, with participating education counseling companies like AusEd-UniEd, IDP Education, GES Global Educational Services, AMACO, MMS Market Management Service and Raven Education Service, the LSAA also organised a line-up of informal Talks in the Lecture Theatre for the school's senior students, by their fellow ex-Lodgians.
Although a bit nervous about how the event would be received, the Alumni were pleasantly surprised by the positive response from both the education counselors, as well as the Fourth & Fifth Formers that attended the talks.
Ronald Ling, kick-started the Talks by briefing the students on his experience at Burnside High, Christchurch and his major in Quantity Surveying at the UNITEC Institute of Technology in Auckland, New Zealand.
Second up was Goh Ai Fen, who also having studied in New Zealand spoke about her high school years at Avondale College, Auckland and later her Bachelor of Communication Studies (Creative Advertising) course at the Auckland University of Technology (AUT).
Having opted instead to stay in Kuching for her tertiary education, Antionette Goh shed some insight into her experience studying completing her Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Systems and Electronics) at Swinburne University of Technology.
A hard act to follow was Vincent Wong who spoke about his decision to pursue a career in the Chinese pop-music industry after completing his Bachelor of Music Performance with Honours (Composition) at the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne. Vincent was indisputably the most popular speaker during the Question and Answer session that followed, and certainly found himself a supportive fan base at Lodge! (We certainly hope that when Vincent launches his album and is famous, he'll remember us and perform for us all at the annual Lodge Talent Night).
Last but most certainly not least, Derbe Tang who shared with the students her experience completing her LLB Honours at the University of Buckingham, after completing her 7th Form in New Zealand. Derbe also shared invaluable advice for students that plan to practice Law back in Malaysia.
We hope that the students found the Talks and Exhibition enjoyable, and most importantly useful in the process of deciding upon their Tertiary Education provider and programme of study.
The LSAA would again like to express our sincerest thanks to the School, Mr. Lee, and Mr. Ling for their support and guidance in helping us get the Alumni off the ground.
Also, a big thank you to the education counseling companies for their support in participating in our inaugural EduFair and making it a success. We look forward to working together in future education events.
