Aikido Demonstration

KUCHING, Saturday 28th March 2009 - Together with Seishinkan Dojo, Lions Club Kuching Emerald, and Photoborneo.com, the Lodge School Alumni Association helped to organise the Women’s Self Defense Aikido Demonstration at the Seishinkan Dojo.

The LSAA believes in the importance for women to arm themselves with the knowledge and capability to protect themselves in potentially dangerous situations. Apart from being able to identify and avoid potentially dangerous situations, we believe women should also be prepared to protect themselves physically if need be.

The best self defense is not being there in the first place. The second-best self defense technique is to run. If neither of these two options is available, you must do whatever it takes to stop the attack.

The aim of the demonstration is to teach one how to take control of an attack and greatly increase your chances of escaping injury, assault or even death. Self defense is about ending a violent attack, ideally unharmed, not about sparring and exchanging blows.

Reuben Yap, a fellow Lodge School Alumnus and one of the instructors of the Seishinkan Dojo, explained that in Aikido success depends on timing and leverage to power the throws rather than muscle, making it an ideal form of self-defense for women.

The dojo welcomes visitors who are interested in joining to come early and sit and watch the practice. The dojo's leading policy is an open invitation to all people without any discrimination. As a result, there is, in the dojo, a rich diversity of students from both sexes and of all ages and all religions and from diverse social back grounds and varying martial arts experience. At the Seishinkan, Aikido is for everybody.

Class fees consist of the one-off Registration fee of RM35.00 and RM100.00 for a three-month subscription. Exclusively for the Lodge School Alumni Association, registered and paid-up members need only pay RM90.00 for the three months.

The Seishinkan Dojo is located on the 3rd Floor, SL 28, Panovel Commercial Centre, at the Jln. Simpang Tiga/ Jln. Mendu intersection (Above Guardian Pharmacy).
